Many statewide efforts are underway to proactively reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that are driving climate change. In the coastal zone, the Coastal Commission and local governments can influence and contribute to these efforts through sustainable development policies and decisions, consistent with the numerous Coastal Act policies that support greenhouse gas emission reductions. The Commission’s work towards sustainability includes creating guidance for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving sustainable land use practices through updates to Local Coastal Programs and reviews of coastal development permit applications. The sustainability resources below are for the Commission, local governments, and other stakeholders to improve climate resiliency and minimize the effects of climate change throughout the coastal zone.
